SAFOD AFFILIATES
Our Affiliates
SAFOD is a regional network of national organisations of persons with disabilities (OPDs) across Southern Africa. It brings together one national federation per country, forming a collective voice for disability rights across the region.
Each national affiliate is an independent, cross-disability umbrella body. They represent their country's OPDs at national level and connect that work to SAFOD's regional agenda. The affiliates feed into SAFOD's governance through the Regional Executive Council (REC), which meets quarterly and provides strategic direction to the SAFOD Secretariat, based in Gaborone, Botswana.
SAFOD has grown steadily since it was founded. For its first 35 years, it had members in 10 countries. In 2022, six new national federations joined, bringing the total to 16 — one for each SADC member state. Click any card below to learn more.
SAFOD has 16 national affiliates in total, covering all SADC member states. The names of the national affiliates for Comoros, DRC, Mauritius, and Seychelles are not yet confirmed in published SAFOD materials and will be updated in due course.
