SAFOD affiliates: 16 national disability federations

SAFOD affiliates are national organisations of persons with disabilities (OPDs) across Southern Africa. Each country has one national federation. Together they form a collective voice for disability rights in the SADC region.

Each affiliate is an independent, cross-disability umbrella body. It represents its country's OPDs at national level and links that work to SAFOD's regional agenda. Affiliates feed into SAFOD's governance through the Regional Executive Council (REC). The REC meets quarterly and guides the SAFOD Secretariat in Gaborone, Botswana.

SAFOD has grown steadily since its founding. For its first 35 years, it had members in 10 countries. In 2022, six new national federations joined. The total is now 16, one for each SADC member state. Select any card below to learn more.
