Training on advocacy campaigns and strategies

SAFOD conducted a three-day training on development of advocacy strategies and campaigns on the 16th-18th September 2024 in Johannesburg, South Africa. The objective of the training was to equip OPDs with knowledge and practical skills to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate advocacy campaigns on the inclusion of persons with disabilities in disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation processes.

This training targeted 14 participants, 3 representatives from each OPD in Malawi, Zimbabwe and Zambia and 5 representatives from SAFOD. A consultant was commissioned to facilitate this training.

Some of the topics covered during the training were around the different advocacy strategies (like media advocacy), strategies of engaging stakeholders when advocating for inclusive disaster risk reduction policies and plans. Upon completion of the training, participants’ capacity in advocacy was strengthened, they were able to develop advocacy campaigns, key messages and most importantly advocacy plan which will act as guide to set clear direction as they continue to advocate for disability inclusive disaster risk reduction policies in their countries.
