SAFOD is a leading disability-focused network engaged in coordination of activities of organizations of Persons with Disabilities in 16 countries of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) region. In each of these countries, our focus is mainly to strengthen the capacity of our national affiliates so that they are able to effectively advocate for the rights of the persons with disabilities in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).

Call for Applications: Part-Time Advocacy Officer – DiDRR Project
The Southern Africa Federation of the Disabled (SAFOD) is seeking a passionate and skilled Part-Time Advocacy Officer to support the Disability Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction (DiDRR) Project. This is a part-time position for a fixed duration of two (2) months, offering an opportunity to contribute to regional disability-inclusive disaster risk reduction initiatives.
Role Overview: The Advocacy Officer will be responsible for developing and implementing advocacy strategies that promote disability-inclusive disaster risk reduction across Southern Africa. They will ensure that the outcomes, best practices, and lessons learned from the project are effectively communicated to key stakeholders, including policymakers, government institutions, regional bodies, organizations of persons with disabilities (OPDs), civil society organizations, and the wider public.
In addition, the officer will support SAFOD’s resource mobilization efforts by identifying funding opportunities, assisting with donor engagement, and strengthening partnerships to advance disability advocacy initiatives.
Requirements
Academic Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Development Studies, Disability Studies, Human Rights, Public Policy, Social Work, or Disaster Risk Management.
- Additional certifications or training in disability inclusion, advocacy, or project management are an advantage.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong advocacy and communication skills, including the ability to influence policymakers, stakeholders, and civil society organizations.
- Excellent grant writing and resource mobilization capabilities.
- Strong analytical, research, and reporting skills, with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and deliver results within tight timelines.
- Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to work with government institutions, regional bodies, OPDs, and civil society organizations.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English; additional regional languages are an advantage.
Experience:
- Proven experience in advocacy, disability inclusion, inclusive development, or disaster risk reduction.
- Demonstrated track record of successful grant writing and donor engagement.
- Experience working on regional or multi-country projects is an added advantage.
- Prior experience in coordinating or supporting policy or stakeholder engagement initiatives is highly desirable.
