On the 21st to 24th of October 2024 representatives from SAFOD, FEDOMA, ZAFOD and FODPZ participated at the 9th Africa Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in Windhoek, Namibia. This conference was organized by UNDRR, SADC and African Union.
- During the three-day conference the team hosted a marketplace booth for 3 days (ie from the 22nd-24th October 2024) to showcase the work being done under DiDRR. The booth was hosted under the theme “Promoting meaningful participation of persons with disabilities as agents of change in disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation”. Advocacy materials were distributed to participants who visited the stall.
- On the 23rd of October 2024, Ms. Ashllah Mmusi and Ms. Elisa Ravengai participated in a working session with CBM and other esteemed DRR experts and advisors.
Ms. Ashllah Mmusi shared a presentation on the lessons learnt from regional initiatives on disability inclusion in DRR.
Some of the key lessons she highlighted includes the following;
Increased participation of persons with disabilities in regional and global DRR platforms like Afrp-9.
Promotion of inclusive and accessible climate change adaptation strategies, including demonstration plots aimed at building community resilience.
The conference exposed the team to opportunities of meeting and interacting with potential partners and investors in DRR.
